Last weekend, the Undead master who had been retired for many years, TeD advanced easily to the WCG finals. As a “declared” (among social forums)  WCG2019 world champion, of course TeD is very strong player.

So how does he think about this “title”, the next game, and the current situation of Warcraft III? Let us look at it together.

I could win more because of the reasons of the competition system, and lucky.

Q: First of all, Congratulations to TeD for qualifying to the WCG Chinese Finals. The last time that you played in offline tournament was 6 years ago, How are you feeling?

TeD: Excited, and my keyboard is getting DUNAI. I feel that all people over the world are DUNAI-ing on me (including you, Tolkien, who is interviewing me now). Nowadays, for me, participating in the competition is to enjoy the fun of Warcraft III. In my early career, I was playing games hard, and now I am enjoying the game, my mind has changed a lot.

Q: In the online qualifier, you were in the same group with a few top amateur players such as Hurricane BO, CooLXian, HuG, and also Colorful.  And you can stand out in such a strong group, which means you are still very strong. So, what is the victory over them?

TeD: Lucky!  After the game, everyone strongly asked me to review the replay on stream (BO, Coolxian, I really don’t want to repeat 2 times, but they, they, they…).

In fact, I could win more because of the reasons of the competition system, and lucky. Such as when I was playing against Hurricane BO, I started on the right side on EI; When we were playing on TR, it’s a near Spawn Position. And so on, a series of luck let me win barely.

I want to feel the atmosphere of the game once again.

Q: After the YSL in 2014, you never participated in the solo event of Warcraft III. Why did you choose to come back this year? Is it because of WCG?

TeD: Because I am weak in 1v1. I currently don’t have good micro at all when I play Warcraft III. When I was playing against PCG, I was also crushed by his micro. In fact, the reason of participating in WCG is that I want to feel the atmosphere of the game once again. I think you may not consider it as a comeback, because the format of WCG let the game will have some upsets. so I may have to concentrate to get carried by Hainiu after playing WCG.

I had a nightmare for 3 months after played against Moon.

Q: May you make a brief review of the three WCG World Finals that you participated? Are there any story in these three competitions?

TeD:The first time was in 2008, I took the fourth place in China, and it’s sad that I didn’t advance to the top three. However, Sai didn’t have a visa, and I had been in the USA to play ESWC before that, so I had the USA visa. After that, I replaced Sai and was able to play.

I remember that in 2008, I used Gargoyles+Ghouls combo to play against Moon. I had a big advantage in the early stage, but I chose Gargoyles+Ghouls combo and I was destroyed by Moon. Then I had a nightmare for 3 months, I kept thinking about why I used the Gargoyles+Ghouls combo instead of the 2 Barracks(Crypt) for Ghouls Rush and transfer to Crypt Fiends, or expanding in Tier 1.

The second time was in 2010, I remember that I beat Infi and Sky and qualified. And I went to the World Finals with confidence. This resulted in me getting destroyed by Grubby. It was a tragic day for me…

In 2012, I originally wanted to start a milk tea shop as a living.

The third time was in 2012.  I originally wanted to rely on my “good-looking face” and start a milk tea shop as a living. I didn’t expect that the milk tea shop would fail after one and a half years, and I was forced to return to Warcraft III.

The journey of coming back was very hard. In China, I was in a group of death(a group with TH000, Yumiko, Kenshin and other masters), but I always played in group of death in WCG in China. The evil Huang Xudong, who was responsible for drawing the groups, gave me the “death group”. I remember that I was in the same group with Sky, Infi, Fly, TH000 and xiaOT every year. It’s terrible!

In 2012, I changed my mentality, because there wasn’t any pressure on me, I just came back around that time. Just like playing WCG now, I am completely enjoying the game. I remember that I didn’t wear headphones when I played in the 2012 WCG Chinese offline. And I also chatted with the players next to me when I was playing,I just was very relaxed.

I didn’t not expect to do well as I had just came back.

Then, in the WCG World Finals in that same year. I was in the group of death (Lyn, Fly, Hawk). At that time, I remember the leader of team WE told me that: “Hey, little fatty, just try your best.” I also thought about it. I didn’t not expect to do well as I had just came back. It’s enough for me to reach the stage of the World Finals.

When everyone thought my situation was hopeless, I was suddenly having good luck again. In the additional game of me vs Lyn, the early game was very bad for me but I took the only chance i had, I won the game and I advanced to next stage. Later, when I was playing Moon in the semi-final, I prepared the strategies before the game very well. At the time, the goal set for myself was just to qualify past the Group Stage. With good luck, I beat Moon and I felt more at ease.

I remember that in the evening after the Semi Final, everyone went to the Internet cafe to practice, like Sky, Fly, and Moon. However, I played Dota that evening. Many people asked me why I was not practicing. I replied that it’s lucky to get to the finals, I can’t change anything even if I practice more. It’s better for me to relax and feel happy, and enjoy the finals tomorrow. In the end, god of luck blessed me a bit more, so I won the WCG 2012 World Championship.

We are welcome the new players to participate in the challenge of the “Hell difficulty project!”

Q: What do you think about “TeD is the WCG 2019 World Champion” meme on the Internet?

TeD: Do you believe it? I don’t believe it myself! Unless it happens like the memes on CNwar3….120’s taxi goes the wrong way, Infi has stomach ache, Th000 is scared because of the scary game, and other players were unable to join in time because of the DUNAI by War3station. So I might perhaps have the chance to win the 2019 WCG World Championship!

Apart of this situation, there should be no chance for me. After all, I am just a happy and Noob player. I am here to enjoy Warcraft III!

Q: Previously, you mentioned on Weibo, “It takes a lot of years for the new players to reach the level of old player,” but some people say that this is because Warcraft III lacks talented players. If we have Wei Shen, UZI in Warcraft III, they may exceed 6S (120, Infi, TH000, Moon, Lyn, Fly) in 2-3 years. What do you think of this statement? In addition, how many years do you think players like Moon, Infi, and TH000 can play?

TeD: I think I can stop talking about this problem. I can only say we are welcome the new players to participate in the challenge of the “Hell difficulty project!” Do you want to be a myth of a project? Please try Warcraft III! I am sure that the level of this game can make you “autistic”.

If Moon, Infi, and TH000 can always maintain their enthusiasm and passion for Warcraft III, and they spend a lot of time to practice every day, then newcomers can only chase after them, but they cannot surpass them. New talents have the opportunity to surpass them only if they stop or do not practice and retire. If these top players are still being enthusiastic, and if the amount of practice is still maintained, they should be able to continue playing at the highest level.

Winning or losing is not as important as the process.

Q: Some people say that UD is unstoppable in patch 1.31. Some people say that UD is still not strong in patch 1.31, because map is the most critical factor. So, how do you think about the changes and patterns of the four races after the patch 1.31 updated?

TeD: 1.31? I haven’t played yet, no matter how it is played, let’s first say, XXX Imba! As a caster, it is difficult for me to assess the pattern, change and situation of each new patch. For this problem, only the top players in active duty can talk because they understand the game way more deeply. We are just noob players, what we need to do is screaming XXX Imba from the sidelines. Anyway, regardless of which race wins, we will call which race Imba, am I right?

Q: If the WCG Chinese Final is playing with patch 1.31, are you confident that you will get the top two and qualify for the World Finals?

TeD: I can’t get the top two even if we have patch 1.40. I am here to meet my friends, chat with them, and enjoy the game. Winning or losing is not as important as the process. And I will use a lot of TeDTV’s special strategies, my goal is to show different and special strategies. If I can win, then it’s good…I just will try not to get destroyed. Even if I am the last with a result of 0-7, the process is wonderful, and I will make the audience remember me…it’s already really great for me, right? After all, the first two will be two of Infi, TH000 and 120, their strength is overpowering the other five.

I am not responsible for this prediction(DUNAI)!

Q: In addition to WCG, will you participate in other Warcraft III solo events in the future?

TeD: Probably not. If you don’t practice your micro, it’s hard to get it back . I still teach some new players, because I am a good talker. I also hope that Warcraft III has more newcomers join. Like WGL Open Division, SLS in this year, they open for the Warcraft III players too.

Q: In the following days, there will be four Warcraft III offline tournaments such as NeXT, WCG Chinese Final, WGL Summer 2019 and WCG World Finals. Please predict the champions of these competitions!

TeD: Isn’t this an easy question? For the fairness of Warcraft III, my bold predictions are as follows:
NeXT – TH000
WCG Chinese Final – 120
WGL Summer 2019 – Infi
WCG World Finals – Moon
Note: I am not responsible for this prediction(DUNAI)! BYE!!!
