Author note: After winning the NetEase e-sports X Tournament Spring 2020 (NeXT), besides of War3station, Lyn also accepted an interview by the organizer of NeXT. Compared to the first interview by War3station, Lyn lost a bit of randomness and humor, and talked a little more memories and insight. Let’s see what Lyn said in this interview.
The NeXT Spring 2020 – Warcraft III officially came to an end, the King of the Orc from South Korea – Lyn successfully reversed the series against eer0 with 3-2 after losing two maps. As a “common guest” of NeXT, and an epic player of the Warcraft III, we invited Lyn to briefly talk about himself.
The ID has no special meaning. The ID was recommended by a friend
Q: As the champion of this tournament, let’s introduce yourself first.
Lyn: Hello everyone, I am Lyn from Newbee.
Q: Why do you call Lyn? Does this ID mean anything to you?
Lyn: Actually, there is no special meaning. The ID was recommended by a friend when I started playing games.
Q: When did you start playing the tournament? And how was the results?
Lyn: The first time I participated in a tournament was 2003-2004 MBC PRIME LEAGUE, and the results were not very good, I think I reached Round of 16.
I started because I want to be the best.
Q: What was your original intention to make you start playing the game? And what makes you persist for so long?
Lyn: I started because I want to be the best. The reason why I persist till now is because I like to win, and I just like Warcraft III.
Q: What did your family think about the occupation you chose when you started playing? What do they think after so many years?
Lyn: In 2003, I played a lot of games. I never thought of being a professional player, but I needed an excuse to be it, I didn’t like learning. In 2004, I reached the finals in a tournament but lost 0-3 to Moon and took the runner-up.
And my parents said, “Maybe you should come back and study.” So I hadn’t been playing for more than a year. From the ending of 2006, I only started playing seriously. After I made some good achievements, my parents did not object, so I’ve played until now.
Being an e-sports players are much harder than expected
Q: Playing games is a hobby, but playing tournament is a profession. Are professional players different from ordinary players in your opinion? Do you have any experience or suggestions for young people who intend to work in the e-sports industry or as a professional player?
Lyn: Being an e-sports players are much harder than expected, and if you want to get good results, you have to work very hard. But if you practice seriously every day and learn from top players, you will get paid with the good results.
Q: In the Finals of Bo5 series, you made a comeback after losing the first two maps. Where is the turning point?
Lyn: The score is just numbers, it can be reversed at any time. And this is the charm of e-sports. The biggest advantage for the Orcs is that they don’t afraid of picking map. The other races will be affected by the map, but I think the Orcs can win on the disadvantaged maps.
Fly is a very hard-working player; my favorite player is Moon.
Q: Which opponent is impressing you the most in this tournament?
Lyn: All the players are great, but Fly has improved a lot recently, which is so touching me. Fly is a very hard-working player, and this is what he deserves. I won because I am luckier
Q: Who is your favorite player in your career?
Lyn: Moon, because he likes Warcraft III very much and is very serious. His did so much of practices. Moon is a top player because he’s practicing very serious and very hard working.
Q: Are there any impressive things in your career?
Lyn: I can’t remember, I feel old.
Q: What would you say to the fans who support you?
Lyn: Thank you for your support, I will present a more exciting game in return.
In terms of play-style, European and Americans are free-spirited.
Q: The current competitive ecology of Warcraft III is in a competitive situation between China, Korea, and Western (Europe and America). What do you think are the characteristics and particularity of each of these three Regions? Can you share a player you admire most besides of Korean?
Lyn: I think China, Korea, Europe and the Western have different understandings to the game. The Strong Races in each region are different. And in terms of play-style, Chinese and Korean will be more similar; European and Americans are free-spirited. I like all of the good players.
Q: Warcraft III has been in e-sports for 17 years. What do you think are the differences in the competitive atmosphere and mindset of the players in these three stages in 2003, 2010 and 2020?
Lyn: The current players are very good, so far the top players are amazing. For example, in 2003, if you use the Invulnerability Potion to dodge Death Knight’s Death Coil, everyone would be shocked, but now all the players can do it, and the micro nowadays has also made great progress compared to the previous.
Author: Thanks to Lyn for accepting our interview, NeXT 2020 is still ongoing! Fight together for our love! And congratulations to the champion!
