Author: Before the Warcraft GOLD Team League (WGTL), many people might always think he was only a Chinese amateur but good Orc player. But with the commentary in the WGTL, more and more people began to be interested in this witty and lean guy. Today, we found Linguagua and conducted an interview with him. Let’s walk into Linguagua’s Warcraft III life together.
My favorite player has been always Fly77% for all these years.
Q: Hello, Linguagua, please first greet and introduce yourself to the audience, readers and fans.
Linguagua: Hello everyone, I’m Linguagua, a streamer of Huya! Some people say that I am a fan of Lyn and Grubby. In fact, my favorite player has been always Fly77% for all these years.
Linguagua’s channel is here: https://www.huya.com/17316519
Translator note: “Fly77%” is a memes in Chinese community. Recently, Fly went to watch some beautiful female Douyu streamer when he was streaming. One of them call 柒柒Bb (in Chinese, 柒柒 pronouns the same as 77.) So, some audiences will call Fly100% as Fly77%.
Q: Many friends may know Linguagua in the WGTL commentary. Can you tell us what kind of experience and feeling when you became the commentary of the tournament?
Linguagua: Caster and player are completely playing different roles, but I think I may not be very suitable for being a caster. Because I am more informal when I was casting, and during the post-game interview, I also asked questions before considering and thinking, and I did something bad. So I think I shouldn’t be in the commentary afterwards.
If RW starts practicing Orc+Night Elf, I think the final victory may be Rogue Warrior.
Q: One of our authors made a statistics before, and found that your prediction success rate is the highest among all the casters. Did you do any research or homework specifically?
Linguagua: Some match-ups is easy for everyone to know and predict. For the other difficult match-ups, just make the different way from TeD and Qiaolin!
Translator note: Linguagua is talking a joke here, he is saying TeD and Qiaolin are DUNAI (毒奶).
About DUNAI: There is a situation when someone is confident and proclaim someone definitely win the game, but after his announcement, the situation reversed, the situation is considered as DUNAI in china. You may consider it as a “curse”.
Q: A caster who can’t make a prediction is not a good Warcraft player. Soon the Playoffs of the WGTL will start. Do you think the team that can win the championship?
Linguagua: If Rogue Warrior starts practicing Orc+Night Elf (Fly+TH000), I think the final victory may be Rogue Warrior.
Because in this version, I personally think that the Orc+Undead will be more decadent, so ELL has split the 120+Lyn in many match-ups. Even if they were playing, Lyn went for SH first and TC second play, which is a reluctantly choice. Both races need to grow up, so in the early game they are relatively weaker. However, if RW still stick with the Fly+TH000 (Orc+Human) or TH000+Infi, then I think ELL will stand in the end.
I plan to reduce practice gradually and find a chance to fade out.
Q: When the audiences were watching the WGTL, many people said that you are so thin. (Especially when there you are beside Xiaotian). So as a Warcraft player, how do you always keep your body shape and maintain your competitive shape?
Linguagua: Keep my body shape? Sorry, I’m desperately trying to gain weight…I also think I’m too thin, and I’m trying to eat more. For Warcraft, I plan to reduce practice gradually and find a chance to fade out. For now, basically I will play only a few games when I am streaming.
Q: Let’s return to your profession. After the first two months of qualifiers, your current points on WGL Points System are quite high. Are you confident to advance to the WGL Summer?
Linguagua: I have no confidence, because since I came back to play Warcraft in 2018, I have always failed to advance to the Offline, with 1-2 places. In these two years, the number of slots also dropped to 20 players from 24, and now it goes to 16. I was away from it with 1 or 2 places every time, so I don’t have much confidence in terms of historical experience! But I also improved from the 25th to 21st, and then I am on 16th-17th now (on WGL Points System).
Translator note: As mentioned above, this interview was published on 25th May, now Linguagua’ve advanced to the WGL Summer 2020.
Mango improved so much recently and everyone can see it.
Q: Now the grouping of the WGL May Qualifier’s also come out, you are in a group with Lyn, Mango and FoCuS. Are you satisfied with this grouping? What is your goal for this Monthly Qualifier?
Linguagua: Each of the group in Pro Div. is very strong. Lyn and FoCuS are two of the big three in the Horde. I have only a little chance, and Mango is also very strong. As many people saw in the April Open Qualifier, he made a wonderful performance. Also, he improved so much recently and everyone can see it. After counting the gap and my recent practice, I will try my best to get one map.
Q: As a player with many experiences, which game’s impressing your the most?
Linguagua:
Tournament: Pink finally made a comeback against Zhouxixi when Zhouxixi had 15,000 golds on TM! I can’t help shouting how high is the ceiling of Night Elf, the acrobatic race!
Ladder: I played with very weird strategy against Infi and I won two games in a row! It’s a big moment of my life.
Translator note: Some Chinese players think Night Elf always lose their hero, and then getting reversed by their opponent. It’s so dramatic, like showing us a acrobatic.
I personally think the new balance changes are relatively reasonable.
Q: What does the Warcraft III game mean in your life?
Linguagua: Hobby after school → own career → a part of my life.
Q: One last question. The new patch came out with the balance changes recently. What do you think of this balance change?
Linguagua: I personally think it is relatively reasonable. If we say the balance of patch 1.301 by Blizzard is at Level 45 of NetEase Ladder, I think they are at Level 25 this time.
Many players feel that the changes is not friendly to their own race. But I think if Blizzard is willing to make the balance changes, it will be a good thing for the development of Warcraft. as long as it is not too bad.
Author: Thanks to Linguagua for accepting our interview, we hope Linguagua can achieve good results in the coming monthly qualifier, and also often appear on the stage of the commentary, to bring us more wonderful game commentary!
