In the December of 2019, the WGL Finals of the year, when eer0 lost to Fortitude in the tiebreaker and Newbee was eliminated by LP, 120 tried hide his face and he felt so helpless.

Since his performance in WCA, Team China vs. Team Korea, eer0’s known as a “weak player” in team tournament. Actually, his performance was not so bad after the game.

Six months later, eer0 finally proved himself in the team league. In the Playoffs of WGTL 2020, he won all of the 1v1 games and resulted 3:2 in 2v2 maps. He is undoubtedly the MVP for ELL’s championship. On paper, eer0 is still the most promising Chinese player to compete for the championship.

So what does he think about the performance of WGTL? Why can he keep the high win rate against TH000 and Infi? How does he think about the coming WGL Summer? Let’s explore it through the interviews below.

Q: First of all, I want to congratulate your team on coming back from being down two maps to ultimately winning the championship against RW. How are you feeling after going through and winning this rollercoaster of a tournament?

eer0: Of course, I am extremely pleased as this was my first time winning a championship in a team. The feeling is completely different than win you win individuals tournaments.

Lawliet and me had no expectation to win the 2v2.

Q: In the Winners Final, you guys lost both your 2v2 to RW. Almost all players agree that whoever can win the 2v2s will ultimately be the champion. So during the finals, your team once again faced up against Human Orc). What kind of changes did you make in your strategy?

eer0: When we were practicing, we discovered that an Orc+Night Elf combo basically has no chance against Human+Orc in the current meta. Doing this Orc+Night Elf combo and just forfeiting the match were basically the same thing. So we just tried out paring Lawliet with me, using a really simplistic and crude strategy, with basically no expectation to win. In the end, we surprising won. I really didn’t expect us to win both points.

Q: Prior to the day of the finals, you and Lawliet had very rarely grouped up together, yet you were able to win two matches together both on Lost Temple. Where do you think the strength of this paring lies? Also, could you give us a professional analysis of these 2 matches.

eer0: For Lost Temple, we had decided that Lawliet and I would play. This is because we could capitalize on Lawliet’s biggest strength – expos everywhere. Since Human+Orc combo are strong in big fight, so we would try to not fight directly, as possible as we can. The only area of change we made was that we had Lawliet go POTM first in order to accelerate and improve our scouting. We were able to get much more insight and information on RW’s actions which improved our own tactics.

Lawliet decided to just take the loss so that both teams could continue the tournament in a good state of mind.

Q: We heard that judges hadn’t contacted you guys during the disconnect in the second match. From the moment of the disconnect to when Lawliet agreed to the death loss, what was going through your head?

eer0: We didn’t have too big of a mood swing. At the time of the disconnect, we were absolutely in the weaker position. And losing that match meant that we would fall behind 0-2. We were really okay with either admitting defeat or continuing the match. In the end, Lawliet decided to just take the loss so that both teams could continue the tournament in a good state of mind.

Q: During these play-offs, you have probably played the best. If there is to be a MVP for this tournament, there is no doubt that is should be you. So could you in a sentence rate both your individual performance as well as your teams?

eer0: I played as usual – just a few less errors than normal. (Translator note by Sean: Remo, should this be “less” or “fewer”?) Lyn was his usual stable self. As for Lawliet, he played the crucial role in the 2v2s.

Q: Some have said that you punch especially hard when playing against TH000 and Infi, that your win rate against them is quite high. Why do you play especially serious against them?

eer0: I don’t especially target them…maybe it’s just that I and up against them at more crucial times so I got to play more seriously.

The thing is beetles don’t really pair well with any other units so this is a problem in late game.

Q: In the newest patch, UD has had the beetle buff – have you thought of any new strategies? Is going crypt lord / beetles first a viable strategy?

eer0: I haven’t had the chance the practice with this hero. The thing is beetles don’t really pair well with any other units so this is a problem in late game.

Q: Ever since, Night Elf started new successful strategies against human, UvO has become the matchup with the most noticeable disparity. Previously, you had said that it all depends on the map – you still fell this way?

eer0: Map is one part of it, but more importantly its determined in the early game.

Q: What are your thoughts on the Moon and Lyn’s dominance of all the recent individual tournaments?

eer0: Moon and Lyn are both extremely hardworking and intelligent. I think that their micro is still better than others so their recent achievements are par for the course.

Winning the championship needs a lot of luck.

Q: Next month WGL will begin, our Chinese players have now three times in a row failed to bring home the crown. Are you confident that you can win it back?

eer0: I’m confident, but to win the championship needs a lot of luck.

Q: When will you come back to streaming and change the title?

eer0: …

Translate note by Lamb: It’s the title of eer0 streaming channel “Today is 27th and I am not streaming, condolences for Kobe Bryant. “
