Interview with Happy: “FoV is the best Undead of all time.”

Before the Winner Bracket Final of Group Stage 1, we had an interview with Happy, let’s take a read for this.

Q: Hi Happy. Is this your first time to come to China? Have you ever been to China before?

Happy: No, this is not my first time to China. This is probably my 6th or 7th time. I don’t quite remember myself. 

About the games against Lyn.

Q: Actually not a lot fans expected that you can beat Lyn. But your excellent performance surprised everyone. Can you give a detailed comment on these two games? What are the key points, you think, in winning?

Happy: Well, in the first game, I think he made a mistake by not defending his expansion properly after that I had an in so he could not do anything. But still I did not expect him to lose the game because initially I was losing. But then he lost one of his heroes – by mistake probably. So I could break his expansion and win. 

In the second game, I think he didn’t play his best early game because he was probably trying to find me on the map because when I almost got level 3, his level 1 Blade Master came to my base and it was looking  like simply could not find me – so he came to my base to try to do something – after that I made a good timing on his expansion which I destroyed.

After that, it should have been over but he like he went running around the map as he can win sometimes… so he led the game to the later stages – but I was still winning. 

About Undead versus Orc.

Q: I found that you like to go to Tier 3 first instead of building Lich then tier 3 base like everyone else’s doing. Could you comment on this?

Happy: I did it because I need tier 3 faster because of Orc. This is why I usually go tier 3 before Lich. I think I cannot go Lich first because I really need tier 3 and I don’t have enough lumber for everything at the same time. 

Q: How do you think to play against the base running when Undead vs Orc ?

Happy: I think it’s like a lame style (happy giggles). It works against Undead very good because Undead doesn’t have any “stopping” units or spells except Banshees. So like Orc can run around the base and just run back using Speed Scroll and Undead can’t really do anything about that. So yeah, this is a problem for Undead.

Humans can use casters for slow; Night Elves can use Entangle or Dryads for slow as well. Undead doesn’t have anything like this except for Wyrms, but Wyrms are not being used. So yeah it’s very difficult style to play against. Especially when the Orc plays base trade, mass towers, and hidden expansion – stuff like this

Q: It seems like you are almost qualified from the group stage 1 after you beating Lyn. Do you have any other expectations for this WGL?

Happy: Well, I am still not qualified, I need to advance from the group first. I don’t really have any expectations. I will be content if I get out of the group stage. 

Q: How do you think of the race balancing for four races? Since Blizzard released three patches in the last year.

Well I think it’s not too good.  A lot of people are complaining because most people think that the balance what was in Warcraft III before the last 3 patches was better than it is right now – like it wasn’t perfect – especially Human against Orc; Orc against Undead; Elf against Orc – but it was stable so people liked it.  And now the balance is really questionable – like Keeper meta for Night Elf…what else…Human got nerfed – Militia got nerfed – Undead’s Destroyers got nerfed so like a lot of people are complaining about balances…

I think the balancing is not too good. I think they should do more careful balance because too many people complain – like before people were complaining but not so much as it is right now – so it’s not too good.

Q: In the past years, there were a lot of famous Undead players like Madfrog, sweet, Ted, and even 120. Whose playing strategy you prefer the most? And by comparing with you who you think is more stronger?

Happy: Well when I was starting playing, I was just learning from the players who had higher level on Battle.net than me, but then the number became smaller and smaller – like the pool of players that I was watching. But I think when I was somewhere in the middle skill level long time ago, I was watching FoV, Sweet, Lucifer for the most part. But that was a long time ago.

That is also why I think FoV is the best Undead of all time.

Q: You got an opportunity for the last year’s WGL but you gave up that spot. But you choose to come to China this year. Can you tell me any reason about this?

Happy: Well the reason is pretty simple. I was not planning to go initially- just like this WGL- as I said before many times, I am not a pro gamer, I’m a streamer-  this is what I do for a living so technically people ask me what would it take for me to get here – so I basically tell them I need some sum of money. Last time pretty much nothing was gathered so it felt like nobody much cared for it so i dropped it because it felt like no point to go, so I didn’t go. This time people are very good at support however. 

Q: You look much more thinner than last year. Do you have any tricks for losing weight?

Happy: Last year I dont think so – maybe 5 or 6 years ago. I think I lost like 25 or 20 kg like 5 years ago. That’s about it.. .

Well I was like eating less, it was a difficult time. One and half years to lose weight nothing specific except this.

Q: The new Warcraft the Reforged will be released in this year. Do you have any plan in joining a professional team?

Happy: It depends on the amount of tournaments and what a professional team can offer me – like salary. But most likely not. I think that I will be certain rise up in tournaments and prize pools but in general it will be too great for me to consider going pro gamer again. For now I would rather stick with stream. 

Q: At last, do you have any words to speak to the fans?
